What is happiness and how can you spread it?
Happiness is when your life fulfils your needs. Quite simply, this means that you feel satisfied and fulfilled with everything in your life. Happiness is a feeling of contentment. You feel content in thinking that your life is exactly as it should be. True happiness comes when you are satisfied that all of your needs are fulfilled. Happiness is when you know your life is in a good place.
Although sometimes our life does not go according to planned, true happiness is recognizing that obstacles are temporary. In the grand scheme of things, small bumps in the road are simply to help you truly appreciate when things appear to be going right in life.
While you may feel overwhelmingly happy most of the time, not all people do. While we should each seek to find happiness within ourselves, there are a few things we can do to uplift others. The following list highlights ten ways in which we can easily spread happiness.

Gratitude is a great way to spread happiness. Think about the things you’re grateful for within a person. Perhaps they’re a good listener, or helped you through a tough time, or maybe they always know exactly when you need a coffee – whatever it is that they do for you, tell them you’re grateful for it. A simple ‘thank you’ makes those around you feel needed and appreciated for their efforts.
Some ways to express your gratitude is to buy the person a gift, or just talk to them and tell them how much you appreciate them. Everyone likes to feel appreciated and you could really make someone’s day by telling them how much you appreciate them. This makes both parties feel good, in addition to strengthening the bond you share.
2. Recall How People’s Kindness Made You Feel

Take a moment to think about a time when someone was incredibly kind to you and really think about how that made you feel. It’s likely that it would have made you feel very happy. Everybody loves to receive a nice act of kindness so imagine how someone else would feel receiving one from you.
Hold onto that feeling of happiness and apply that to the way your treat someone else. Perform an act of kindness on another person and see how that makes them feel. You’ll feel happy for having performed an act of kindness and the other person will feel happy for being on the receiving end of it. It’s a win-win situation.
3. Hide a Surprising and Kind Note

Leave a short note somewhere for your partner to find. Even if it simply says the words “I love you”. It will only take two minutes out of your day but will mean the world to your partner and will fill their day with joy and happiness.
Imagine if you received a little note as such, you would feel absolutely wonderful. Now, don’t you want to make your partner feel that exact way? Try it and see how happy it makes them. After all, it’s the simple things that keep a relationship alive and romantic.
You could also try leaving an encouraging note for your child in their lunchbox. It will be great to give them something to read during their lunch break. They will love it and it’s something you can reminisce about when they get home from school.

By donating to charity, you will not only be changing someone’s life, you’ll also change your own life. Knowing that you’re helping others with something as simple as a small donation can bring so much happiness and warmth in your heart. Whether you donate money, time, effort, or clothes to an organization, you can rest assured that you will directly impact someone.
Think about something you’re passionate about, whether it be children, animals or perhaps you’ve had a relative suffer from a particular disease. Now, use that emotion to donate and make a difference to anyone else that has to go through something like that.
5. Leave a Generous Tip With a Nice Note

Waiters and waitresses love to receive tips. Since they often get paid minimum wage, much of their earnings is topped up with tips. When a waiter or waitress is particularly nice to you and provided a good service, why not make their day by leaving them a large tip and an encouraging note to uplift them during their shift?
Everyone loves to read something positive and encouraging, and this will be especially rewarding to someone during their work shift when they’re probably not in the best mood ever. Make their day by leaving them something nice.
6. Give a Homeless Person Some Money or a Meal

Imagine if you yourself were homeless, how much you would appreciate receiving a bit of money or a hot meal. Now go out and do that for someone. Make their day and restore their faith in humanity by performing a kind act for someone who has very little.
I have given my spare change to homeless people on numerous occasions and they have always been incredibly grateful even to just receive a small amount. It’s rewarding to know you’re helping someone and seeing their gratitude for such a simple act really warms your heart.
7. Listen to Someone When They Need to Talk

It’s always nice to have someone really listen to you when you need to vent. Sometimes, when you’re having a bad time or you’re going through something, all you need is to talk and have someone listen to you.
Do that for someone. If someone needs to talk, really listen to them, offer advice and help them through their tough situation. Even if you don’t feel like you can offer them much advice, you might actually be helping them more than you think just by being there to listen to them. Let them get their feelings off their chest and see how great you both feel afterwards.
8. Help Someone Carry Something

If you see someone struggling to carry something, help them out. Imagine if you were struggling to carry something, how amazing it would feel to get a hand from a stranger. You can do exactly that for someone by helping out anyone you see struggling.
It doesn’t matter if you know the person or not, everyone can appreciate a helping hand every now and again. You could really make someone’s day just by giving them a helping hand when they’re in need.
9. Treat Your Friends

Everybody is thankful for friends, so why not show them how thankful you are for them by buying them something they’ll love? Maybe take them out for a meal or treat them to something meaningful that you know they would love. Whatever you choose to do for them, your friend will be sure to appreciate it.
Imagine if your friend surprised you with something nice, you would absolutely love it. This is exactly what you can do for one of your friends and seeing the happiness on their face when you surprise them is something that will keep you feeling happy and positive all day.
10. Be Polite and Thank Everyone

Politeness is such a simple but rewarding thing. When you come across someone who is polite, you immediately like them more than if they weren’t as polite. Thanking people when they do something for you feels great for both you and the person receiving the thank you. Everyone likes to feel appreciated, so why not do that for someone? Politeness is the perfect way to spread happiness.
