1 – Be Kind
Always be polite to everyone you meet throughout the day. It doesn’t matter who it is, just make sure you’re always polite and kind to every single person that crosses your path each day. This can be more difficult on some days than others. After all, we all have bad days. But just remember that first impressions are everything, so if you meet someone new, you want them to think of you as a positive, happy person. If you’re polite and nice to other people then more often than not, they will be polite and nice back to you. Kindness is one of the best traits a person can have.
2 – Be Respectful of Others
You can’t expect people to respect you if you don’t even respect anyone else. Try to seek out the good in other people and find a reason to show them some respect. Try to avoid disrespectful behaviours such as looking at your phone while someone is talking to you, or rolling your eyes when you hear something you don’t like. Not everyone will have the same opinion as you and that’s okay. Listen to them and respect them for having the guts to speak their own mind, rather than focussing on the fact that you don’t agree with them. Respecting others is something that we should all aim to do more often.
3 – Be a Good Listener
Try to avoid drifting off into your own thoughts while someone is talking to you. It’s easily done in this day and age because we are all so busy and have so much to remember. However, it is important that we listen carefully when others are talking to us. If someone is talking to you, that means they have chosen you over everyone else to feed some information to. That’s a great thing. Show them that you really appreciate their conversation by really listening to them. Being a good listener is a great trait to have and is one that we should all work on improving.
4 – Be Useful
You can easily earn someones respect by being there to offer them a helping hand. If you see someone struggling with something, even if it’s a stranger, offer them a helping hand. Not only will you gain their respect, you’ll also improve your own mood. Nothing can make you happier than knowing that you’ve helped someone out or made someone else’s day. Look for opportunities to help people. Take responsibility and do helpful acts without waiting for someone to ask for your assistance. A helpful person is always well respected. Being a helpful person is an amazing trait and is one that every person should aim to improve.
5 – Don’t Make Excuses
If you’re late for something, don’t come up with an excuse as to why you’re late. You’re late due to your own actions. We all make choices in life and we all make decisions, so excuses are not an appropriate response to things. Own up to your own mistakes and people will respect you a lot more than if you constantly come up with excuses. Just be truthful and honest with people. Take control of your life and your actions and be sure to own up to all of your mistakes. Nobody on this earth is perfect and we do all make mistakes. Learn to embrace that and become a more honest and positive person. Honest people are the best kinds of people.
6 – Let Go of Anger
An angry person is much more difficult to approach than a calm or happy person. Holding on to anger or a grudge will not accomplish anything other than continuing to hurt yourself. Allow yourself to be angry for a short period and then find a way to move on from the situation. Holding onto anger will only cause stress and anxiety which can often leads to health problems down the line. Learn to allow yourself to forgive and forget. A happy, calm and collected person will be respected much more than someone who remains angry and mad. Staying angry at something will not accomplish anything other than bringing your own mood down.
7 – Be Willing to Change
A person who is stubborn will never get anywhere in life. To grow and progress as a person, you must be willing to make sacrifices and to change in order to progress and learn. Make an effort to progress as a person. Try something new, learn a new skill, take a class, try a new activity. Any of these things will help you to grow as a person and will allow you to become more open-minded about things. A person who is willing to grow is a person who can be well respected. Be sure to congratulate yourself on your progress and your successes because these are the things that will make you a better person. Being a stubborn person will not accomplish anything other than keeping you a bitter person.
